Problems and Solutions on Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics by Yung-Kuo Lim. These problems are carefully chosen from 3100 problems, some of which came from the China-U.S. Physics Examination and Application Program, others were selected from the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination on Experimental High Energy Physics, sponsored by Chao Chong Ting. The rest came from the graduate entrance examination questions of seven famous American universities during the last decade; they are: Columbia University, University of California at Berkeley, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin, University of Chicago, Princeton University and State University of New York, Buffalo.     This eBook C++ by Examples is authored by Steve Donova.  It starts with a strong beginning of the hierarchy of Programming languages as,
   The history of C++ is interesting because it helps to understand where it comes from. On the one hand, there is a tradition of low-level power and efficiency that comes from C, and on the other hand it is a high-level object-oriented language.
C: Close to the Machine
The ancestor of C++ is C, which has been around since the early 1970 s. It was developed by Dennis Ritchie at AT&T Bell Labs as a lean, fast language that is rich in low-level machine operations (such as bit twiddling) but can be moved (that is, ported) easily to other machines. As soon as UNIX was rewritten in C, it could itself be ported to much different architecture.
There is a certain cowboy spirit about C: You don’t need to be too worried about data type safety if you know what you’re doing. C is a very small language. It has no built-in I/O and file access or string manipulation capabilities, unlike
BASIC, for example, which has PRINT and INPUT. In C, everything is done with libraries. C is often used to program devices as small as 12 KB washing-machine controllers.

C++: “C with Classes”
    C++ grew out of C in the early 1980 s at Bell Labs. Bjarne Stroustrup was doing research in simulation, and he was inspired by the class concept of the SIMULA language. The original compiler translated C++ to C, but modern compilers go directly to machine code. The modern C++ language has grown throughout two decades from not having templates, exception handling, or multiple inheritances, to becoming a fine, stable adult.
C++ remains true to its C roots. It still relies on libraries for all its I/O functions and runs on small devices such as cell phones as well as on continent wide tele-phone networks. To this day, C++ remains incredibly backward compatible with
C. A programmer can choose to get close to the machine or operate on a very high level; this flexibility is what gives C++ its special power.

Java: Universal Language
    In the early 1990s, researchers at Sun Micro systems were looking at a reliable way to build the next generation of consumer devices. James Gosling and
Patrick Naughton developed Java, which is syntactically similar to C++ (that is, it uses the same punctuation and many of the same keywords) but is designed to be a pure object-oriented language

Interest in digital image processing methods stems from two principal application areas: improvement of pictorial information for human interpretation; and processing of image data for storage, transmission, and representation for autonomous machine perception.This chapter has several objectives: (1) to define the scope of the field that we call image processing; (2) to give a historical perspective of the origins of this field; (3) to give an idea of the state of the art in image processing by examining some of the principal areas in which it is applied; (4) to discuss briefly the principal approaches used in digital image processing; (5) to give an overview of the components contained in a typical, general-purpose image processing system; and (6) to provide direction to the books and other literature where image processing work normally is reported. Description

Let's face it, learning 3D graphics takes effort. I have read most of Hill(falls short of the mark) and all of both of Angel's books (excellent for OpenGL). Hearn and Baker do an excellent job of explaining difficult 3D concepts. The examples are clear, the C code is very useful, and the diagrams are most helpful. The book is well-written, concise, and thorough. Compared to other books, this one does not gloss over details... yes, effort is required, but the explanations are as straightforward in this book as you will find anywhere. I get lost in Foley, there's just too much detail. I get lost in Hill, as he touches on scores of "thoughts" and ends up losing sight of the basic concepts. Hearn and Baker just get right down to the business of teaching and explaining a conceptually tough subject, thoroughly, succinctly, and completely. No, they are not going to make you a graphics programmer without effort on your part, but no one will.This book is the best I've seen for achieving an understanding of the basics. If you're doing OpenGL, combine Hearn and Baker with Angel's books and you'll be off and running.
